How to Add a Logo in Your QR Code (QR Logo Design Guide)

In modern marketing, branding is everything. A plain black-and-white QR code can look generic and untrustworthy to users. Adding your company logo in the middle of a QR code — the classic qr logo design move — establishes brand identity, increases scan rates, and reassures scanners that the code is legitimate. In this guide, we show you how to create a custom QR code with logo safely without breaking scanability.

How Center Logos Work inside QR Codes

QR codes are built with built-in redundancy called Reed-Solomon Error Correction. This mathematical algorithm allows QR scanners to reconstruct missing or obscured data blocks in the code pattern.

Because of this error correction, you can intentionally block out a portion of the QR code (such as the center) and replace it with a custom image or company logo. The scanner will read the remaining visible pattern, run the error correction algorithm, and successfully resolve the target URL without any errors.

Which Error Correction Level Should You Choose?

There are four standard error correction levels defined in the QR code specification:

  • Level L (Low): Recovers up to 7% of missing data.
  • Level M (Medium): Recovers up to 15% of missing data.
  • Level Q (Quarter): Recovers up to 25% of missing data.
  • Level H (High): Recovers up to 30% of missing data.

When generating a custom qr code with logo, strongly prefer Level H (High) error correction. Obscuring the center of a QR code with a logo typically covers 15% to 22% of the pattern. Level H ensures that even with the logo in place, there is plenty of redundant data left for cameras to resolve the scan instantly.

What Are the Best Practices for Placing Logos in QR Codes?

  1. Logo Size: Keep the center logo size under 25% of the total QR code width. If the logo is too large, it will cover critical finder patterns (the three large squares in the corners) and make the code unscanable.
  2. Contrast and Border: Always add a solid background block or a light border around your logo. This separates the logo graphic from the black QR data pixels, preventing scanners from merging logo pixels with data pixels.
  3. High Resolution: Export your designs as high-definition PNG files for digital screens, or use vector SVG format for physical banners, stickers, and signage to ensure pixel-perfect print clarity.
